5 Men Allegedly Rape 20-Year-Old Woman In An Abandoned Hospital

Five men have been arrested in India for allegedly taking a 20-year-old female student to an abandoned hospital and sexually assaulting her.

The incident took place Tuesday night after a group of three men offered the victim a ride. One of the suspects allegedly befriended the woman and made her sit on his motorbike. The men told the victim they were going for a drive and took her to an abandoned hospital in Nizamabad, a city in the Indian state of Telangana.

Inside the abandoned facility, the group of men and the victim allegedly consumed alcohol, an officer told The Hindu.

"Later, three of them sexually assaulted her in the presence of two others in the security guard's room. After a few hours, around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, we received a Dial 100 call and soon a team along with night duty officer rushed to the spot and rescued the victim," the officer added.

The victim was rescued around midnight, according to Nizamabad Commissioner of Police Kartikeya. She was then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Initially, neither the victim nor her family filed a complaint against the suspects, Kartikeya said, adding that the victim's statement was not recorded after the rescue because she was "unable to give a statement" in her condition.

However, the victim lodged a complaint with police Wednesday before she was moved to another hospital. Nizamabad town police said a complaint has been registered against the three men and their two accomplices. The group has been charged with gang rape and wrongful restraint, reported The Times of India.

Police arrested the five men on Wednesday. The incident is under active investigation.

Last week, police arrested 33 male suspects, including minors, for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl for nine months in Mumbai, India. According to the complaint, one of the accused minors befriended the girl on social media. He then allegedly sexually assaulted her and filmed the incident. The accused used the said video to blackmail her. He also forced the victim to meet the other suspects who then raped her on multiple occasions and in various locations.
