A woman in Belarus was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for beheading her infant daughter. The incident took place in October 2018.

According to reports, the father of the infant, 28-year-old Leonid, entered his home and found his wife, 26-year-old Natalya Kolb, and her friend, 48-year-old Viktar Syarhel, drinking. He then found his eight-month-old daughter lying dead in a pool of blood. The baby was beheaded with a kitchen knife and had 46 other wounds on her body.

Recalling the scene, a neighbor had said, “When Leonid came into the flat he saw a scene out of the horror movies. The ambulance doctor fainted when she came in.”

The mother of the child and her friend were taken into custody. Last year, the court ruled that the killing was carried out with “particular cruelty” and sentenced the woman to 25 years in prison. Her friend was given a death penalty.

On Friday, the court rejected their appeal. With this, Kolb faces 25 years of jail term and her friend will be executed with a bullet in the back of his head.

In a similar incident in 2017, an Ohio woman with postpartum depression was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for beheading her three-year-old daughter. Prosecutors said the woman, Deasia Watkins, first stabbed the girl 15 times with a kitchen knife. She then beheaded the girl before placing the weapon in the child’s hand to make believe the girl did it. The woman was taken into custody and pleaded guilty to the murder.
