A pack of stray dogs mauled a 9-year-old boy to death while he was playing with his friends. The incident took place Sunday in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad.

Local reports said at least four dogs attacked the group of children. The victim, identified as Ayaan, was flying kite along with two other friends when the incident took place.

"While the rest of the children managed to escape from the spot, Ayaan could not. The dogs chased him around for a while before attacking him. The boy was injured and died on the spot," A Narsimha Rao, a police officer, told local media.

People in the area saw the attack and alerted the police. Authorities arrived at the scene and found the boy dead. The body was sent to a local hospital for an autopsy. The dogs reportedly bit the victim's neck and other parts of the body.

A case of suspicious death (under Section 174 CrPC) was registered after the victim's father filed a complaint with police, local news channel NDTV reported. Authorities said an investigation was underway into the incident.

Last month, a 2-year-old girl in India was attacked by a pack of dogs after she was abandoned by her parents near a school. Some students saw the child and tried to help her. The girl suffered injuries to her face. Police arrived at the scene and rushed her to a nearby hospital.

In another incident, a minor girl was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs while she was returning home from her family's field. This also happened in India. Local residents saw the dogs approaching the girl but could not do anything to save her. The victim, identified as Neha Maurya, suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.
