The Aaron Rodgers rumors already included a possible trade to the New York Jets, and speculation that the team is eyeing the Green Bay Packers quarterback is about to grow even more. The Jets have hired former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett to hold the same position in New York for the 2023 season.

Rodgers won the NFL MVP award in each of Hackett's final two seasons in Green Bay. When the Denver Broncos hired Hackett to be their head coach for the 2022 season, it led to rumors that the team might trade for the Packers quarterback.

The Broncos ultimately traded for another veteran quarterback, and it couldn't have gone any worse. With Russell Wilson as his starting quarterback and a 4-11 record, Hackett was fired by the Broncos, failing to make it one full season in Denver.

Much like the Broncos a year ago, the Jets appear to be a quarterback away from contending for a Super Bowl. There are reports that the Packers could potentially trade Rodgers this offseason after Green Bay missed the playoffs. Rodgers has acknowledged the possibility of playing elsewhere.

According to NBC Sports' Peter King, the Jets would be willing to trade two first-round picks in exchange for Rodgers. New York is likely ready to move on from former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson. Mike White is probably not the Jets' long-term solution at quarterback.

Hackett reached the AFC Championship Game in the 2018 season as the Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive coordinator. His offenses usually ranked in the bottom half of the league before teaming up with Rodgers in Green Bay.

Rodgers is only one year from winning his fourth MVP award. The 39-year-old also had one of the worst statistical seasons of his career. Rodgers went 8-9 with 3,695 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 91.1 passer rating.

The Jets missed the playoffs with a 7-10 record. New York ranked fourth in scoring defense and 29th in scoring offense.

The Jets parted ways with offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur at the end of the season.
