An Amazon driver has become a savior for a 5-month-old baby boy who was abandoned by a carjacker on the side of a road in Houston.

Juan Carlos Flores was on his delivery route on Monday when he spotted the child on the roadside, said a report by NBC News.

Flores spotted the car seat on the curb but did not immediately realize that there was a baby in it. He just assumed that some parent placed the car seat on the curb for a moment, so he continued to deliver packages.

However, after 10 minutes, he saw that the car seat was still on the same spot. He checked it and found a child in it. Flores then went to the nearest residence to tell them about the abandoned baby. They called the police.

Flores led the authorities to the abandoned baby when they arrived.

"When I went close to the baby, I wanted to cry, because it's impossible the baby can be here on the side of the street alone. I took the police to the house and that's when they told me the baby was stolen with a car, and they left the baby on the side of the street," he said.

The child was soon reunited with her mother, who came crying.

Houston Police Department spokesperson Kese Smith said they received a call from a woman around 8:35 a.m. on Monday to report that her car had been stolen with her 5-month-old baby boy inside of it.

According to the woman, she left her car running when she ran back to the apartment to ensure the door had been locked.

"An unknown suspect then stole the car with the baby inside and the baby was then abandoned on the side of the road," said Smith.

Both the mother and the child were unharmed.

A home surveillance video showed an unidentified person leaving the child on the side of the road in an apparent carjacking case, reported ABC News. The footage also shows several delivery trucks driving past the baby in the first 22 minutes of the video, before Flores finally spots him.

The stolen car was found near Dorothy Ann Drive shortly after the incident, the police said.

As per Google Maps, the distance between the three points—where the car was stolen, where the baby was abandoned and where the car was later left behind—is over one mile.

The Houston Police Department said no arrests have been made so far. It has encouraged anyone with information about the suspect to contact law enforcement authorities.
