Anderson Cooper recently opened up about his former New Year’s Eve special program co-host Kathy Griffin’s President Donald Trump photo scandal.

During a recent interview (via USA Today), Cooper said that he doesn’t want anybody’s career to be destroyed just because they made a mistake or did something inappropriate. “Look, I wish her well and I hope she bounces back and keeps doing what she does best, which is make people laugh,” he said.

Last month, Cooper was one of those who reacted to the controversy that Griffin was involved in. On his Twitter account, the CNN anchor expressed his disappointment over what Griffin did. The comedian posed for famed photographer Tyler Shields while holding a fake decapitated head of the president of the United States.

A few days later, CNN decided to end their partnership with Griffin, who happens to be the host of the network’s New Year’s Eve special program alongside Cooper. The latter also talked about Griffin’s termination and said that he understands why CNN came to such a decision. “CNN made the decision not to bring her back. I had nothing to do with it, but I certainly understand why they made that decision,” he stated.

Cooper also previously clarified that he didn’t have anything to do with Griffin being removed from the network. “People were assuming I was somehow responsible for this and I just felt I should point out that I actually think this is pretty important as somebody who works overseas and, you know, journalists get beheaded and this is not a joke,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Griffin apologized for sharing the photo on social media and vowed to take it down. On her Twitter account, the comedian begged for everyone’s forgiveness for what she did. She also held a press conference where she broke down in tears and claimed that the Trump family was hell-bent on destroying her.

However, Griffin and her lawyer reiterated the fact that they will continue to speak out against Trump. The comedian also called the president a “bully.”
