The Priv is Blackberry’s first Android device, released last year. It comes with Android Lollipop out of the box. Unlike the devices from Samsung, Sony and LG, there has been no news about the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for BlackBerry Priv. However, today, a video showing the Priv handset running the Android 6.0.1 OS has surfaced.

In any case, there is no official information available to ascertain the roll out timeframe of Marshmallow update specific to the BlackBerry Priv. However, in the U.S., carriers like Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T should schedule the update for the Priv users.

Upon downloading and updating the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update, the BlackBerry Priv will get the much-appreciated Doze feature to save the stand-by battery life. This is achieved by putting the handset in deep sleep by cutting down the background apps, activities and services, when the device is inactive for a stipulated period of time.

The same update also brings in Google Now on Tap feature that helps with searching contextually. This feature will display search results based on the content shown in the device screen. To top it off, the firmware allows users to give or deny app permissions based on individual features, Phone Arena reported.

On a related note, BlackBerry is running a promotional offer specific to the Priv. Upon purchasing the BlackBerry Priv from AT&T, buyers can avail free accessories. This is a limited period promo deal that ends on April 15.

With this deal, Priv buyers will get a Slide-Out Hard Shell Case with Kick Stand and Sync Pod free of charge. The full value of these freebies adds up to $90.

It is worth noting that buyers can claim the Case and Sync Pod free of charge until May 16. After ordering the device, buyers have to log into the promotion page and fill device-specific details to get the freebies.

AT&T is now selling the BlackBerry Priv for $739.99 without a contract. The other way is to purchase the device by paying 24.67 per month, spanning 30 months, under a contract.
