Following the intense divorce and custody battle with estranged husband Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie might be facing another sensitive issue as the biological mom of her adopted daughter Zahara resurfaced to reconnect with her daughter. Based on the reports, Zahara’s Ethiopian birth mom is hoping to be a part of her daughter’s life.

In July 2005, Jolie adopted Zahara in Ethiopia when she was 6 months old. But more than a decade after, Zahara’s biological mother sought out the media to express her desires to reconnect with her daughter, and she’s also asking Jolie to let Zahara talk to her.

"We all die sometime and before I die I would like her [Zahara] to know about me and that she has family here in Ethiopia,” Zahara’s biological mom Mentewab Dawit Lebiso told Daily Mail. “I would ask Angelina to let me speak with her. I do not think it is too much to ask."

Lebiso explained that even though she wanted to be a part of Zahara’s life, she’s not trying to get her daughter back. According to E! News, Lebiso just wanted to be “in contact and be able to call and talk” with her daughter.

Moreover, Lebiso admitted she’s not proud of what she had done, saying it was Jolie who gave her daughter an “incredible” life. But she also said giving up a child for adoption doesn’t mean that the mother does not long to have a relationship with her daughter.

“Angelina has been more of a mother to her than I have ever been. She has been with her since she was a baby, but that does not mean I do not miss her,” Lebiso said, Us Weekly quoted. “I miss her all the time. I think about her every day and long to hear her voice or see her face. I know when she has a birthday but I am sad because I can’t celebrate it with her. I would so much want to celebrate with her on her birthday and other special days… I would like Zahara to know she has a mother who loves her as much as Angelina.”

Lebiso’s plea, which came amid the Brangelina divorce and custody battle, was also met with skepticism, especially when Jolie told CNN in a 2006 interview that Zahara was an AIDS orphan. Lebiso also reportedly gave contradicting statements.

In an interview with Daily Mail, Lebiso explained she gave birth to Zahara, who was conceived by brutal rape, when she was 19. And since she was sick and weak at the time, she decided to put her baby up for adoption. But in a 2007 interview with the publication, Lebiso said she ran away, leaving her baby to her mother after she struggled to deal with the struggles of being a young mom.
