Authorities in Alabama on Monday said the body of a missing college student has potentially been found, a month after she first went missing.

The Auburn Police have reportedly found Aniah Blanchard’s remains in Macon County, southwest of Lee County, where she was attending Southern Union State Community College. It has not been confirmed how exactly authorities received information about Blanchard’s whereabouts in their ongoing investigation of her disappearance.

Police found human remains in a wooded area just off County Road 2 in Macon County. Lee County District Attorney Brandon Hughes said there is good reason to believe the remains are Blanchard's.

The discovery comes after two suspects have been arrested.

“A complete investigation is underway by ALEA and Auburn Police to determine the identity and how the victim came to be at that location. The examination will explore if the remains are those of Aniah Blanchard who went missing on October 24, 2019,” an official statement from the Auburn police read.

Blanchard’s vehicle was found in Montgomery, which is further southwest from Macon County. Multiple agencies have been involved in the search, which included roughly 60 miles in between Blanchard’s school and the area where her vehicle was found.

Blanchard, 19, had last been on surveillance footage in an Auburn convenience store on the night she went missing. A witness reported seeing Ibraheem Yazeed, the most recent arrest in the case, forcing Blanchard into her car against her will. Samples of Blanchard’s blood were later found in the vehicle. Officials stated in an affidavit that the blood was “indicative of someone suffering a life-threatening injury.”

Blanchard is the stepdaughter of UFC fighter Walt Harris.
