  • Anne Heche died Friday after suffering a severe brain injury in her Aug. 5 car crash
  • Her ex-girlfriend Ellen DeGeneres said she was "sad" and sent "love" to the late actress' family
  • Thomas Jane and Peter Thomas Roth, two of Heche's exes, also paid tribute to her via social media

Several of Anne Heche's famous exes paid tribute to the actress after Heche was declared brain dead this week following a fiery car crash on Aug. 5 that left her with a severe brain injury.

After reports emerged that Heche would be taken off life support and an hour before the 53-year-old Emmy winner's rep confirmed her death late Friday, Ellen DeGeneres took to Twitter to share her condolences.

"This is a sad day. I'm sending Anne's children, family and friends all of my love," DeGeneres tweeted.

Hech and DeGeneres made headlines when they began dating in 1997 due to the public's feelings toward same-sex relationships at the time. They broke up three years later but remained good friends throughout the years, according to Us Weekly.

Earlier this week, the former daytime talk show host was asked by a photographer if she had talked to her ex-girlfriend prior to Heche's car crash in Los Angeles last week.

DeGeneres said they were "not in touch with each other," but she sent her well-wishes to Heche, adding, "I don't want anyone to be hurt."

Two hours before Heche's death was confirmed, another one of her exes, James Tupper, took to Instagram to share a snap of the "Cedar Rapids" actress.

"[L]ove you forever," he wrote in the caption, along with a broken heart emoji.

On Aug. 6, Tupper had asked fans to pray for Heche while she was fighting for her life in the hospital. He also shared a photo of Heche with their 13-year-old son, Atlas.

"Thoughts and prayers for this lovely woman, actress and mother tonight Anne Heche [broken heart emoji]," he wrote on Instagram. "We love you."

Tupper and Heche met on the latter's 2006 ABC show "Men in Trees." They were together for over a decade before they split in 2018.

Thomas Jane, who briefly dated Heche in 2019 and 2020, also paid tribute to her via Instagram following the news of his ex's death.

"Rest in peace, beautiful friend @anneheche," he wrote, according to Us Weekly. "May 25th, 1969 – August 12th, 2022. Comments to come. Please keep her two sons, family and loved ones in mind, in your hearts... and in peace. With love."

Peter Thomas Roth, Heche's most recent ex, posted a moving tribute to the actress on Instagram. He shared photos and a clip of them when they were still together.

"What an amazing talent to pass so young. So sad," he wrote in the caption, before sending his condolences to her sons Homer, 20, and Atlas.

Heche shared son Homer with ex-husband Coleman Laffoon, to whom she was married from 2001 to 2009.

Homer shared a statement with People following his mother's death, saying in part, "After six days of almost unbelievable emotional swings, I am left with a deep, wordless sadness. Hopefully, my mom is free from pain and beginning to explore what I like to imagine as her eternal freedom."

Heche was driving her Mini Cooper when it crashed into a two-story home in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles on Aug. 5. According to neighbors who rushed to the scene, her car caught fire almost immediately after the crash, according to People.

It took nearly 60 firefighters to extinguish the fire and 65 minutes before Heche was extracted, the report said.

Heche never regained consciousness after the crash.
