  • Respawn Entertainment addresses the absence of solos mode in "Apex Legends"
  • Apex Legends is now playable in Duos and Trios
  • Respawn once tested solos mode for a limited time

In the patch notes for the “The Old Ways” event, Respawn Entertainment also took the time to explain why there is no solos mode in “Apex Legends.”

“Apex Legends” has been a massive success since its release in 2019. In fact, it quickly hit 50 million players in its first month alone, establishing itself as one of the best and most popular games in the battle royale genre.

It is initially a team-based game where a squad of three battles against 19 other teams for a total of 60 players. However, in the latest update, Duos has been permanently added as a new option.

Nonetheless, fans can’t help but ask why there is no option for solo players to take on the game. While a solos mode has been rolled out previously, it was only for a limited time and it was eventually removed from the game.

Respawn addressed the issue in their latest patch note, highlighting that their limited test run proved that solos mode did more harm than good for “Apex Legends.”

They also pointed out that since the game is originally made for teams, the built of some characters are more complementary rather than for solo gaming.

“When we introduced Solos as a limited-time mode last year we saw it actually negatively impacted the game, especially when it came to new player retention,” Respawn explained in the notes.

“We’ve also purposely designed Legends and their abilities to compliment teamplay and squad composition, but when played Solo some Legend abilities become useless. These are just some of the reasons we decided not to include Solos in today’s update. We’re still exploring ways to allow a Solo experience, but for now, grab a friend (or two) and jump into the arena.”

Fortunately for fans, the game developer did not totally rule out adding the mode sometime in the future. Their update also confirmed that there have been plans to add solos in the game, so it is more than likely that it will be included in one way or another.

As for “The Old Ways” event, it has officially started last April 7 and will run until April 21. The duos mode, a new map rotation, new exclusive skins and cosmetics have also been rolled out as part of the latest update.
