“Arrow” character Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) will return for a fifth season of crime fighting, and now fans have been given some insight into his next big bad villain. The CW

As Season 4 of “Arrow” comes to a close on the CW, some fans are already looking ahead to Season 5. Although precious little is known about the show’s fall return, a recently-surfaced casting call for a new character has people wondering who the hero will clash with when the time comes.

According to TV Line, the superhero series is looking for a male actor of any race in his 20s or 30s to play a role in Season 5. Right now, the character is listed as “James,” but it’s likely that this is just a code name, allowing the producers to find the person they need without worrying about giving away the surprise. “James” is described as an “Irrepressibly charming” individual who can act as a contemporary to Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell). When he arrives on the show, he’ll be on a mission to avenge a very tragic and violent loss that he suffered years in the past.

Given the description of the new character, many believe that he will be brought on as the new villain that Oliver and the team will have to take on after they inevitably stop Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), presumably by the end of Season 4. Typically, the big bad of each season has something to do with the flashbacks to the hero’s five years marooned on an island. As previously reported, the writers of “Arrow” already have plans to ensure that the final round of flashbacks in Season 5 feel more connected to the present-day plot line. They also revealed that fans may get an insight into how Oliver became a key player in the Russian mafia. Perhaps James will come to Star City from the east with an anti-Oliver agenda based on something he did in his final year away.

Not much else is known about “Arrow” Season 5 other than the casting call for “James.” We know that Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum) will return having been promoted to a series regular. Holt acts as the Palmer Technologies buddy to Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), but comic book fans know he eventually becomes the hero “Mr. Terrific.” Meanwhile, Season 4 was marked by the death of [SPOILER ALERT] Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy). Fans noticed that, just before she died, she whispered a secret to Oliver, that The Hollywood Reporter confirmed won’t be addressed until after Season 4.

Fortunately for “Arrow” fans, there’s still a lot of adventure left before the agonizing wait until the show’s Season 5 return in the fall. The show returns for episode 20 of Season 4 Wednesday night at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
