“Avengers: Endgame” isn’t done at the box office just yet. The Marvel Studios movie is now less than $8 million away from knocking out “Avatar” as the box office champion.

“Avengers: Endgame” now has an estimated $2,780,800,139. “Avatar,” which was released in 2009, is the highest grossing movie at the worldwide box office with $2,787,965,087. That means “Endgame” is only $7,164,949 from beating “Avatar.”

The worldwide box office title is the only race where “Avengers: Endgame” still has a shot at taking the crown. The domestic box office champion is “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with $936.6 million. The fourth “Avengers” is second with $851.2 million, and it’s highly unlikely to close that $85 million gap. “Avatar” also has a higher foreign box office with $2.03 billion while “Avengers” has $1.93 billion.

Can “Avengers: Endgame” earn another $7.16 million to become the highest earning movie at the worldwide box office?

The June 28 re-release is what’s helping push the movie to the finish line. While diehard fans weren’t thrilled with the bonus content of the re-release (one unfinished deleted scene, a Stan Lee tribute and a “Spider-Man: Far From Home” sneak peek), it made the film more widely available again. It was still playing in over 1,400 North American theaters this weekend.

The release of “Spider-Man” is also likely helping. “Far From Home,” which came out July 2, largely focused on the aftermath of “Endgame” and the ramifications of a certain hero’s death. It’s safe to say at least a few Marvel fans went to the see “Endgame” again before or after “Far From Home.”

However, moviegoers are going to stop heading to the theater soon. After all, “Avengers: Endgame” will be available via digital retailers on July 30. The movie, which hit theaters April 26, will be released on Blu-ray, DVD and OnDemand on Aug. 13.

Of course, it should be noted that “Avatar” and “Avengers: Endgame” aren’t competitors. Disney owns Marvel Studios as well as “Avatar” producer 20th Century Fox.
