KEY POINTS

  • Keep mouse sensitivity settings the same across multiple games as much as possible
  • Learn which forms of mouse movements are more applicable for certain games
  • Aim trainers can greatly help with daily practice and the development of a consistent technique

Aiming and proper mouse movement are skills that any PC FPS player will develop over time. However, those who want to take their skills to the next level need to consciously develop their aiming habits through constant practice.

Improving one’s aim in FPS games is much easier said than done. More often than not, players will be too caught up in the moment to actively train their aim while in-game. This is especially true for the fast-paced gunfights found in many of today’s games.

Here are three tips to help players learn correct mouse movement and improve their aim in almost any FPS game.

Sensitivity Settings

It’s important to understand that the perfect sensitivity setting is the one that they’re most comfortable with. Players don’t have to copy the mouse sensitivity of their favorite professional player, or use whatever setting they also use. Comfort is key when it comes to aiming, and players need to find the settings that work best for them.

One tip to help develop a consistent feel for mouse sensitivity is to set the same sensitivity setting across all FPS games. This will help train muscle memory regarding how much movement a player needs to make in order to hit a target.

Wrist And Arm Movements

Players can move their mouse with either their wrist or their arm. This is important because knowing what body part to move can greatly affect a player’s chance of hitting their target.

Wrist movements are better suited for high sensitivity settings or for fast-paced arena shooters like “Splitgate.” Meanwhile, arm movements are better for slow and steady shooters like “Valorant.” However, it is up to the player’s discretion as to which movement they want to practice and utilize among all of the games that they play.

Aim Trainers

There are loads of aim training software on the internet that are specifically made to help players practice their aim. “Aim Lab” is one of the most popular ones right now. It’s free and it has a lot of options that players can choose from.

Aiming exercises for tracking, flicking and everything in between can be practiced in “Aim Lab,” and players can even copy their sensitivity settings from other games into the trainer’s own options menu. This will help maintain that aim consistency and eventually help players master their aim over time.
