A spinoff for “Black-ish” may soon be in the works at ABC. According to Deadline, the new show will solely focus on Zoey Johnson’s (Yara Shahidi) character while she’s in college.

The spinoff is created by “Black-ish” head Kenya Barris and former showrunner Larry Wilmore. The spinoff will be introduced as a backdoor pilot episode sometime in the spring. However, insiders told the publication that the spinoff is still in its early stages, and no script has been written yet. Deals haven’t been finalized with the network, but if it will be a go, it will also air on ABC.

Shahidi’s Zoey is the 17-year-old eldest child of Dre (Anthony Anderson) and Bow (Tracee Ellis Ross). She is popular, stylish, rich and ready to take on new responsibilities as a college student. She has three younger siblings, Andre (Marcus Scribner), who is not very popular or smart, and twins Diane (Marsai Martin) and Jack (Miles Brown). In order to boost her chances at getting accepted at a reputable school, Dre got Zoey an internship at Teen Vogue where she has also excelled.

Meanwhile, the upcoming episode of “Black-ish” Season 3, episode 13, titled “Good Dre Hunting,” will see Bow encouraging her husband to go to therapy for anger management. At first, Dre hesitates to agree to Bow’s request, but when he finally goes, he realizes how helpful going to therapy could be.

In the sneak peek released by ABC for episode 13, Dre gets his mom’s support when he initially tells Bow that he won’t go to therapy because he isn’t mentally ill. Bow questions if her husband thinks she’s mentally ill, and that’s why she goes to her therapist. Dre and his mom then enumerate the many times they saw signs that something was wrong with Bow.

“Black-ish” Season 3, episode 13 will air on ABC on Jan. 25 at 9:30 p.m. EST.
