The Blacklist
Red (James Spader, left) and Liz (Megan Boone, right) might be on the run for awhile in "The Blacklist" Season 3. NBC

"The Blacklist" is no stranger to arcs that last more than one episode, such as Red's (James Spader) hunt for Berlin (Peter Stormare) after he kidnapped Red's ex-wife (Mary Louise Parker) in Season 2, but the show has largely stuck to its crime-of-the-week format. However, with Red and Liz (Megan Boone) starting Season 3 on the run, the popular NBC procedural might be throwing out the rule book. Executive Producer John Eisendrath teased that the new episodes will have a very "different feel."

In an interview with TVLine, Eisendrath teased that the show would be deviating from the procedural formula in Season 3 more than ever with its two main characters in hiding. According to the writer/producer, though the show will “still be delivering blacklisters,” the never-ending Rolodex of criminals Red has lined up for the FBI, the series “will have a different feel." Eisendrath attributes the new feel to the changing dynamic of many characters who previously worked alongside Red and Liz now having to hunt them down.

“That’s going to cause a lot of tension between those on the task force, each of whom has a very specific point of view about the value of [arresting Liz],” said Eisendrath. “Ressler [Diego Klattenhoff] is a dogged, by-the-book guy who is going to bring [Liz and Red] in. At the same time, we have found opportunities for Red and Liz to convince the FBI that one of the best ways to keep track of them is to assist them in going after certain blacklisters, who Red and Liz are going after in order to exonerate Liz.”

It sounds like their is a real possibility that Red and Liz might be on the run for awhile, a.k.a. not just the premiere episode. It might take a little while to figure out how to out-maneuver the Cabal and clear their names. If the latest trailer for Season 3 is any indication, Red and Liz will be plenty busy while in hiding. The teaser shows the pair constantly evading capture from Ressler and the FBI with Liz sporting a new, blonde hairdo and Red laying low in a baseball cap in a scene that appears to take place in an unidentified Spanish-speaking country. The duo was previously shown in some leaked photos posing as cops to get themselves out of a jam.
