“Blindspot” Season 2, episode 1 opened with some shocking revelations about Jane Do, a.k.a Alice (Jaimie Alexander), and her past.

In “In Night So Ransomed Rogue,” Alice learned that she has a brother named Roman (Luke Mitchell). The lead character also found out some details about the woman who raised her. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Martin Gero confirmed that Roman will be part of all episodes in Season 2. Jane and Roman’s mom Shepherd (Michelle Hurd) will be in the first few episodes of the season.

“I don’t want to give too much away, but Luke is here for every episode. Jane has been struggling to find an actual, tangible connection with somebody since she came out of that bag in the pilot. Roman is that guy; she has a history with him. They’re blood relatives. That’s a very meaningful moment for us when he gives her his blood,” he said.

Meanwhile, Alice and Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) also had meaningful exchanges in episode 1. Jane tried to explain why she lied about being Taylor Shaw. New character Nas Kamal (Archie Panjabi) also told Kurt that Jane was just protecting him the entire time they have been working together, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Gero explained that Roman was introduced in the show to try and stop Alice and Kurt from acting on their feelings for each other. Instead, the exec wanted Alice to have a connection with someone who is related to her. “We wanted somebody who had a stronger bond than just a fiancé. Family is family and that’s what she’s been searching for this whole time,” he explained.

In other news, “Blindspot” Season 2, episode 2 will see Alice working with Kurt and his team to prevent a crooked DEA agent from selling stinger missiles to a drug cartel, according to NBC. “Heave Fiery Knot” will also see Kurt struggling to keep his team together amid Alice’s ongoing issue with Zapata (Audrey Esparza), Reade (Rob Brown) and Patterson (Ashley Johnson).

“Blindspot” Season 2, episode 2 will air on Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. ET.
