‘Blindspot’
What will happen to Zapata (Audrey Esparza) in the finale episode for “Blindspot” Season 2? NBC

“Blindspot” Season 2, episode 22 will put the spotlight on Audrey Esparza’s Zapata.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Martin Gero said that Zapata will step up her game in “Lepers Repel” despite the fact that she was recently shot and is still recovering at the hospital. “We had talked a lot about how there’s the TV trope of the tough guy who pulls out his IV and walks out of the hospital to get back into the action. We hadn’t really seen that with a woman in a while, so we thought it would be great to see Tasha be like, ‘I’m not going to be in a hospital, to my own physical detriment,’ so she’s very much involved in the next episode,” he said.

Gero added that Reade (Rob Brown) will also experience a turning point in his personal and professional life in the upcoming episode of the hit NBC series. Reade is set to leave for Quantico, and everything that will happen to him in episode 22 will change him tremendously.

Elsewhere in the episode, Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) will find himself at the center of a surprising event. He was just recently kidnapped by Shepherd (Michelle Hurd) because the latter wants him to be part of the Continuity Government Sub-Committee or (COGS). Weller could be one of the many people being eyed by Shepherd to take over the government should it fail in the near future.

Additionally, Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) will have an uncertain future because Roman (Luke Mitchell) is determined to take her down. In the previous episode, Roman finally found out that it was Jane who erased his memories, and he’s not happy about it.

During a separate interview with the same publication, Gero explained Roman’s decision to side with Shepherd and not with Jane. “I think he’s torn. Oddly enough, for a homicidal maniac, Roman is the probably the most sympathetic character this year, because, like Jane last year, his destiny has not been his own. He’s had a terrible childhood, raised by a monster, and then had his memory erased by ostensibly the only person that he loved or that loved him. He’s furious at Jane and is remembering why she erased his memory, which is even worse,” he said.

Meanwhile, NBC just renewed “Blindspot” for a third season. According to TV Line, the ratings for “Blindspot” Season 2 have not been impressive, so the renewal somewhat came as a shock. On average, the series only received a 1.0 rating among the 18 to 49 demographic. At one point, the figure slid to 0.9. “Blindspot” also ranks below the newly-canceled series, “Timeless.”

Two years ago, NBC was quick to renew “Blindspot” for Season 2. After releasing just a few episodes, the network decided to give Gero the chance to continue writing compelling stories. But after the mysteries surrounding Jane’s tattoos were solved, the ratings for the series consistently dropped.

“Blindspot” Season 2, episode 22 will air on NBC on May 17 at 8 p.m. EST.
