Blumhouse, the horror giant behind hits like "Get Out" and "Halloween," will now have another title to add to their scary portfolio come 2019's holiday season. On Thursday, the production company announced that they will be working with Universal Pictures to remake the 1974 cult classic "Black Christmas," reports Variety.

The film follows a group of sorority girls as they are stalked by a mysterious killer on campus during the holiday season. However, according to Polgyon, the 2019 installation seems to bring a new feel to the plot as the students are not going to be "slasher fodder as they were in the 1974 original." Instead, "the sorority sisters are working with 'final girl' DNA, fighting back against the murderer."

On Thursday, Blumhouse tweeted the first image from their new project, which features a prominent candy cane dripping in blood.

This outing is not the first time "Black Christmas" has been rebooted. In 2006, the holiday horror was remade and distributed by Dimension Films. The 2019 version is set to be co-written by April Wolfe and directed by Sophia Takal, known for her thriller "Always Shine," making her the first female at the helm of a Blumhouse theatrical release.

"Black Christmas" is set to hit theaters on Dec. 13.
