Actor Bob Einstein, known for his character Super Dave Osborne and Marty Funkhouser on the sitcom "Curb Your Enthusiasm," died Wednesday. He was 76.

Einstein had reportedly been diagnosed with cancer.

He won two Emmy awards for writing, one for "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" in 1967 and another for "Van Dyke and Company" in 1977. He was nominated for four other Emmys.

Einstein was perhaps best known for his Super Dave character, an Evel Knievel-esque stuntman with a knack for suffering comical injuries whenever he attempted stunts. The character got his own TV show on Showtime in 1987 and otherwise appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” and “Late Night with David Letterman” as a regular guest.

More recently, Einstein made frequent appearances as Marty Funkhouser on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Funkhouser was a recurring friend and golf partner of protagonist Larry David. He also appeared in the third season of “Arrested Development” as Larry Middleman, a surrogate for George Bluth.

Einstein, a native of Los Angeles, was also the older brother of actor and comedian Albert Brooks.
