Brad Pitt recently opened up about his alcoholism following the highly publicized breakup with ex Angelina Jolie, along with the news that he’s been clean and sober since. According to him, that’s all thanks to his good friend Bradley Cooper.

At the annual National Board of Review gala, Cooper was handing out the award for Best Supporting Actor when it just so happened that Pitt was announced as the winner for his role in “Once Upon a Time In Hollywood.” Upon accepting the award, Pitt thanked Cooper personally and expressed his appreciation for the Oscar-winning actor. "I got sober because of this guy and every day has been happier ever since,” Pitt told the audience. “I love you and I thank you."

While the two Brad’s have been spotted hanging out in the past, it’s unclear what role Cooper played in the “Ad Astra” star’s sobriety, but the actor hasn’t been shy about his struggles. The drinking, Pitt stated in an interview with the New York Times, ended around the same time as his relationship with Jolie. He also stated that he spent a full year in AA cleaning himself up.

Cooper, who plays an alcoholic in the film “A Star is Born,” in which he wrote, directed, and starred in, had his own experience with alcohol dependence. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cooper stated that he struggled with his drinking habits in his 20s.

"I don't drink or do drugs at all anymore," Cooper said. "Being sober helps a great deal."
