Brandi Cyrus was one of the guest speakers at the 2015 Simply Stylist Do What You Love Conference sponsored by Dove in New York City where she opened up about becoming a fashion blogger. The 28-year-old actress, musician and half-sister of pop star Miley Cyrus also chatted with International Business Times about the future of her blog, Style Native, and why she no longer gives her famous sister fashion advice.

“I’m such an eclectic mix of things, but I definitely have an edgy style,” Brandi Cyrus told IBT. “I’m not your typical preppy put-together girl that wears high heels or whatever. I love unique pieces. I like to be comfortable. Just feeling a little rock and roll makes me feel like me.”

The host of Popular TV's "The Queue" also revealed that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are some of her style icons.

“I just love them. I think they’re timeless, like everything they do is right,” Cyrus adddef. "[I also] love Alison Mosshart, she's the lead singer of a band called The Kills and the band called the Dead Weather, she's just a bad a--bleach blond hair rock and roll goddess. She’s amazing. She dresses very grungy, very tomboy… and it looks effortless.”

Cyrus also told IBT she gets some of her inspiration from her Instagram followers because she loves to check out everyone's different styles.

“It's like everyone now dresses so great,” she explained. “It's nice to take influence from them but at the same time you have to be careful because I don't want to stray away from what makes my blog different.”

Speaking of her blog, Cyrus revealed that she launched "Style Native" after stepping away from her band Frank & Derol last year.

“I was kind of looking for something different and fashion just kind of... I just fell into it and it made sense,” Cyrus said. “I have always loved it and I did get a taste of it being in the band. And I've always been that girl that my friends come to to borrow stuff.”

"The blog itself is just really great because it's 100 percent creatively my control; like no one's going to ever tell me what I can and can't do with it which is really refreshing after being in the music business," she added. "What's the coolest thing about the blog is that it's led to so many other things that I didn't realize was going to happen. I kind of feel like the possibilities are endless; I don't know where it's going to take me.”

As far as whether Brandi Cyrus and her sister Miley Cyrus ever swap advice, the blogger said, "She tends to give it to me more these days. When we were younger she wanted to borrow my clothes and the older she got we started borrowing each other’s clothes.”

“And now her closet is so amazing, usually I'm the one borrowing from her,” Cyrus dished.
