  • RM revealed he ran away prior to BTS' debut during the group's guests appearance on reality show "I-Land"
  • The rapper revealed that it was his father who convinced him to back and realize his dream
  • BTS also discussed good leadership with the K-pop artist hopefuls on "I-Land"

BTS recently graced reality show “I-LAND” and offered some advice to the K-pop artist hopefuls. During their chat, group leader RM revealed that he ran away six months before the septet released their first single.

BTS, whose members are Jin, J-Hope, Suga, Jimin, V, Jungkook and RM, appeared on the Aug. 14 episode of the show and toured the facility of “I-Land,” which is described as an “observation reality program” to hone a new K-pop boy band. BTS also had a Q&A with the contestants, sharing their own experiences and words of wisdom.

One of the hopefuls, Ta-ki, admitted to struggling when it comes to focusing on the tasks because he misses his family back in Japan, explaining that this was the first time he has been away from them for a long period of time.

Jimin shared that BTS completely understands the sentiment as they only see their parents twice or thrice a year. RM, meanwhile, recalled that he even went home six months before his group debuted.

RM said that his father spent hours convincing him to go back, telling him, “I know you’re someone who wants to be there and has to be there. If you come back here then you’re going to resent me for the rest of your life.”

Suga agreed, explaining to the “I-LAND” contestants that missing their families is normal but they should realize what they needed to do and “get yourself together again.”

Apart from this concern, other contestants asked BTS about a multitude of things, including Heeseung’s query about good leadership skills. The members of the successful group were impressed by the question.

RM said that the fact that Heeseung asked about this matter is already a sign that he has good leadership skills. The rapper, whose real name is Kim Nam-joon, explained that for him, a great leader is someone who initiates and steps up when there are things needed to be done.

Although the BTS’ RM didn’t feel he could do it well, Suga and V assured him that he is a great leader. The group also talked about how hard it is to lead, which is why the team members need to work together as well.
