KEY POINTS

  • "MIC Drop" is the fourth BTS song to reach 1 billion views on YouTube
  • Two other BTS songs -- "Fake Love" and "Idol" -- are nearing the 1 billion mark
  • "MIC Drop" is also DJ Steve Aoki's first remix to reach the 1 billion mark on YouTube

It looks like there is no stopping BTS when it comes to achieving one milestone after another, as their old hit, “MIC Drop (Steve Aoki Remix),” reached over one billion views on YouTube nearly four years after its release.

Three years and eight months after it was uploaded to YouTube on Nov. 24, 2017, “MIC Drop” is still thrilling BTS’ global fan base “ARMY” as it shared the billion views milestone with three other BTS songs: “DNA,” released in September 2017 with 1.3 billion views; “Boy with Luv (featuring Halsey),” released in April 2019, also with 1.3 Billion views, and “Dynamite,” released in August 2020 with over 1.1 billion views, Billboard said.

Meanwhile, BTS’ 2018 songs “Fake Love” and “Idol” are closing in on the one billion views mark with 973 million and 969 million views respectively.

“MIC Drop” was originally released as a B-side song to their fourth mini album “Love Yourself: Her” that came out in September 2017. American DJ Steve Aoki’s remix came in November 2017 as the second single from the album.

According to music label Big Hit, the album “Love Yourself: Her” tells the story of young boys who are reaching adulthood while experiencing the joy of falling in love for the first time. The album also includes songs with a message of peace and unity.

Aoki celebrated the milestone by tweeting a video of “MIC Drop” with the caption: “Thank u @bts_bighit & @ #BTSArmy for getting my Mic Drop Remix to 1 BILLION VIEWS!!! My first music video to ever do that & I’m so amazed by u. In honor of these amazing fans I’ve made a BTS megamix with some edits & remixes I’ve made!! Enjoy!!”

Of course, the “ARMY” had a grand time congratulating each other as the hashtag #MicDrop1B became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter on Monday.

“ Congrats @BTS_twt!! Mic Drop MV is the 4th MV to surpass 1 billion views after DNA, Boy With Luv and Dynamite! #MicDrop1B,” Twitter user @modooborahae said.

“Mic Drop hits 1B the same day BTS are the First Act in History to replace themselves twice at #1. Yoongi says it all: I’m sorry Billboard. I’m sorry that we’re on Billboard despite your predicting/hoping our failure,” fan @purple_urself said.
