  • The 27-year-old rapper will release his first solo project after BTS went on a hiatus

BTS leader RM surprised fans with the announcement of his new single, "Sexy Nukim," which is a collaboration with the South Korean musical group Balming Tiger, to be released next week.

On Wednesday, the news was shared through BTS' official Twitter account alongside a funky and colorful illustration of the eight members of the genre-hopping K-pop act depicted as animated characters. The caption read, "SEXY NUKIM (feat. RM of BTS) - Balming Tiger. 2022.09.01."

BTS fans, known as ARMY, couldn't help but express their excitement for the upcoming collaboration. The post immediately garnered 426.5 thousand likes, 22.1 thousand quote tweets, and 152.7 thousand retweets. Some fans even dubbed RM "Sexy Namjoon" because of the track.

"Namjoon's music taste is so f'ing GOOD!!! This is gonna rock my world," one user wrote.

Another added, "[I'm] so excited balming tiger SLAPS."

American television host Jimmy Fallon also commented on the post, saying, "Who doesn't love @bts_bighit #Password."

Although the post did not feature a snippet of the track, fans speculated that "Sexy Nukim" was already teased during one of the performances of Balming Tiger back in May, when YouTube channel Dingo FreeStyle released episode 5 of their "Wing Cypher" series. The single was allegedly briefly heard at the 5-minute-and-58-second mark.

The collaboration would be the 27-year-old main rapper's first solo project after the world's biggest boyband went on a hiatus. The group took a break so members could focus on individual projects and take some time off to rest, Billboard reported. RM is also currently working on his forthcoming photography book, "Me, Myself and RM: Entirety."

Fellow BTS members have also pursued individual endeavors. J-Hope released his first solo album "Jack In The Box," Suga collaborated with Samsung to produce a new mix for "Over The Horizon," and Jimin, Jin, V, and Jungkook featured on Benny Blanco's newly released single "Bad Decisions," alongside rapper Snoop Dogg. Jungkook is also preparing for the launch of his folio, "Me, Myself, and Jung Kook: Time Difference."

Interestingly, fans can see all seven members of the Grammy-nominated boy band together once again as they are set to perform at a free in-person concert, titled "BTS: Yet To Come in Busan," on Oct.15 at the Busan Ilgwang special stage on Gijang-gun.
