KEY POINTS

  • BTS' Suga and IU's track "Eight" reportedly topped the Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart
  • The K-pop artists' song collaboration ranked no. 1 overall and managed to sell roughly 7,000 copies after just two days of sales
  • The hit single is Suga's very first solo song to achieve this ranking

BTS' Suga has bagged his first solo no. 1 hit on the World Digital Songs chart.

The 27-year-old rapper recently collaborated with fellow South Korean singer-songwriter IU for “Eight.” Suga and IU’s latest track was immediately well-received, garnering positive reviews from fans of both K-pop acts. Welcomed warmly by their listeners and followers, millions have now rushed to stream and even purchase the track—a definite win for both K-pop artists, Forbes reported.

Now that the track seemed to have amassed global recognition, Suga and IU’s “Eight” recently topped Billboard’s weekly ranking of bestselling titles, ranking no. 1 overall on their latest World Digital Songs Sales chart. The artists’ most recent hit single is their very first triumph each based on their individual records.

Meanwhile as per Forbes, combining Suga’s current tour de force and the knockout musical contribution he’s made as a member of BTS, has landed the K-pop icon on the list’s highest rung, an incredible 20 times.

Both K-pop artists’ rise in the World Digital Song Sales chart is definitely an impressive feat. But according to Forbes, what seems more noteworthy is how the track immediately peaked the charts, considering that the song only had half a tracking week to rack up sales.

On a normal scale, every tracking week often runs from Friday at midnight all the way through the following Thursday. Suga and IU’s single, however, debuted in the middle of the tracking period, which was on Wednesday (May 6). This move can often decrease a song’s chances of charting well.

Suga and IU’s “Eight” instantly managed to sell under 7,000 copies in the U.S. alone after a mere two days. Had both musicians debuted their single on the normal tracking week, it's possible the sales figure would have been much higher, making the song snare the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart’s highest rank.

In just two days of release, the song has opened at no. 13 on the Digital Song Sales chart, becoming the highest-charting Korean-language tune in U.S. history. “Eight” is currently Suga and IU’s first certified hit together, achieving a perfect all-kill on both domestic and international music charts.
