  • Activision officially releases the remastered version of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2"
  • However, the game is currently timed-exclusive for PS4
  • "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" Remaster will be available for PC and Xbox One on April 30

After its supposed surprise release was leaked a day earlier on Monday, the remastered version of the "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" campaign was officially launched on Tuesday, March 31.

Unfortunately for gamers, the game is timed-exclusive for a month for PlayStation 4, which means that PC and Xbox One players will only be able to play the remastered version of the popular first-person shooter game on April 30.

Players on other platforms aside from PS4 can pre-purchase the game to get a free Underwater Demo Team Classic Ghost Bundle, but the full "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" Campaign Remastered won’t be available until the time exclusivity expires.

As noted by Activision in their announcement, the remastered iteration of 2009 classic “delivers the full story experience with stunning high-definition visuals and the latest audio advancements.” In a news release, the team also emphasized it can be played “up to 4K resolution” and has HDR support on console.

However, they specifically noted that the remastered campaign does not include Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer or Special Ops modes.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" is often regarded as one of the best games released in 2009. It has been universally acclaimed, thanks in large part to its single-player narrative and a multiplayer mode that have drawn huge praise from gamers worldwide.

It has also received various recognitions in 2009, with multiple award bodies and gaming publications naming it the best shooter game of the year.

However, it is worth noting that the game isn’t without controversy. In fact, it drew flak for its fourth mission “No Russian.” While this part allows players to skip this mission, some find the depiction of massacre and terrorist attacks unacceptable and offensive.

This development is just the latest in a string of updates from Activision with regards to their Call of Duty game series. Just recently, they also provided new content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty Warzone, which includes a free new map and a series of new weapons to make the game even more exciting.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" Campaign Remastered is downloadable on the PlayStation Store. Meanwhile, PC and Xbox One users can pre-purchase through Blizzard.
