KEY POINTS

  • Cardi B said she will match the donation made to a foundation or charity
  • The donor is required to reply to her tweet and post the donation receipt
  • She and Fashion Nova had donated a total of $1 million for people directly hit by the COVID-19

Cardi B has a challenge for her Twitter followers after she received backlash over her previous tweet about planning to buy a designer purse worth $88K.

The “I Like It” singer posted about her "match the energy" challenge on Twitter on Sunday and urged her followers (individual or an organization) to post receipts of the donations they made to a charity or foundation, so she can donate the same.

Cardi B’s challenge was well-received by many of her followers, and among those who replied were Twitter users The Powers of Giving Foundation, WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot and TheLatinoHandModel.

Another Twitter follower, White silence is VIOLENCE, thanked the “Wap” rapper in a post and told her the items purchased were donated to the teacher at Title 1 in Anchorage, Alaska.

“Most of her students qualify for free lunch and despite living in Alaska, many of them come to school w/o warm clothes,” the Twitter user added.

Consequently, Cardi B reposted tweets of people and organizations, who have successfully donated to charities and foundations.

This endeavor seemingly stemmed from a lot of people urging Cardi B to donate instead of buying a purse worth $88K.

“Okay let’s do this challenge! Since ya want to tell me to donate so much...” she wrote.

“Drop receipts on what YOU have donated too. I will match it and donate to [an] organization you have donated as well. LETS START NOW!” she added.

Back in April, Cardi B, in partnership with Fashion Nova, gave away $1,000 every hour until it reached $1 million to those who were directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of the recipients of Cardi B’s donation was a nurse assistant from Massachusetts. According to TMZ’s report back in April, the nurse assistant used the money to buy groceries and essentials for her children and gave $100 to a neighbor, who lost her job.
