The Publix grocery store chain issued a voluntary recall on its store-brand Deli White American Cheese on Friday due to the possible presence of “foreign material.”

The cheese was sold in refrigerated units in the stores’ deli sections, and some pieces may have been used for custom sub sandwich orders. The affected items were in stores between Oct. 3-11. None of the chain’s other cheese products are affected by this recall.

“As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from all store shelves,” Maria Brous, Publix media and community relations director, said in an official statement. "Customers who have purchased the product in question or custom subs made with the product in question may return the product to their local store for a full refund."

Publix customers with additional questions may call our Customer Care department at 1-800-242-1227 or visit our website at www.publix.com.”

Publix operates 1,270 locations in the southeastern United States. The company is based out of Winter Haven, Florida.
