KEY POINTS

  • Federico Chiesa is being linked to a move away from Juventus in January
  • Chelsea is reportedly ready to spend big on Chiesa
  • The 24-year-old made his mark in Juve last season and in the Euro 2020

A mutual interest between Chelsea and its rumored target appears to have surfaced.

Big-name English Premier League clubs are expected to bolster once again in the January transfer window.

Chelsea was already successful in landing world-class striker Romelu Lukaku this past summer, but the club is still constantly linked to a wide array of frontline players.

One of the names being thrown in the conversation is Juventus attacker Federico Chiesa.

The 24-year-old is believed to have been on Chelsea’s radar in recent weeks. Fortunately for the Blues, Chiesa seems to have viewed himself joining Thomas Tuchel’s squad as he has been “spotted” following Chelsea’s official social media account, Caught Offside reported.

International Business Times could not independently verify this information.

Aside from Chelsea’s official account, the report said that Chiesa also started following a couple of Blues players, particularly Christian Pulisic, Mateo Kovacic, Saul Niguez, Kai Havertz and N’Golo Kante.

All told, the report suggests that this “could be a strong hint from Chiesa” about possibly making a switch to Chelsea in the upcoming transfer window.

Apart from Chiesa, the report added that his Juventus teammate Matthijs de Ligt is also being linked to a move to Stamford Bridge.

If recent reports are to be true, it appears that Chelsea has got Chiesa on top of its January transfer wish list.

An earlier report already said that Chelsea has long been monitoring Chiesa as well as Bundesliga side Bayern Munich.

However, it was noted that between the two, it is the Blues that are “ready to make an important investment,” and signing Chiesa from Juventus is already being plotted.

What’s even more interesting, Chelsea’s interest in the right-footed forward could be compared to Lukaku as the report said that the Blues are “willing to spend up to €100 million ($112 million)” for Chiesa, the same amount of money they splurged on the former Inter Milan star this past summer.

Chiesa started drawing attention after his impressive run in the Euro 2020.

In club football, the Italian has also been remarkable, having already scored three goals to date.

However, it was during his most previous campaign with Juventus where Chiesa really made an impact in the Serie A side, having bagged a total of 14 goals in 43 matches across all competitions.

This had also got the media labeling him as Cristiano Ronaldo’s new “sidekick.”
