Chrissy Teigen is getting real on the difficulties of breastfeeding and calls for the normalization of using formula.

The model took to social media Sunday and opened up about the struggles she went through when she tried to breastfeed her children, Luna Simone and Miles Theodore, whom she shares with husband John Legend. Teigen also bared how she felt about people insisting it was the best option for her children.

“Ok I'm gonna say something and you all are definitely gonna make it a thing but here goes: normalize formula,” Teigen wrote in a lengthy thread.

“Normalize breastfeeding is such a huge, wonderful thing. but I absolutely felt way more shame having to use formula because of lack of milk from depression and whatnot,” she continued.

The “Cravings” cookbook author went on to point out that the “breast is best” mantra is always pushed even if people have surrogates or experience trouble breastfeeding. Teigen said in a follow-up tweet that while normalizing breastfeeding is “great,” there should be no stigma attached to feeding babies formula as well.

“normalize formula! your baby is gonna be BEAUTIFUL, PERFECT, AND OKAY,” she added.

The “Lip Sync Battle” host recalled her own experience, revealing that she used to pump in the “highest mode” because she “didn't trust milk was going into their mouthes [sic] if I breastfed.” Teigen shared that it made her frustrated that all she could produce was an ounce.

Teigen, who recently suffered a pregnancy loss, said that the stress from her struggle and the guilt over not being able to do “nature's most natural thing” was too much.

“I dunno why this is my crusade now. I just remember the sadness I felt and want you to know you are doing it right if your baby is fed, mama,” Teigen told her followers.

Teigen’s latest Twitter tirade came after she rushed to Meghan Markle’s defense after the Duchess of Sussex was heavily criticized for revealing that she suffered a miscarriage in July in an op-ed for The New York Times. When lost her unborn child Jack two months ago, the former Sports Illustrated Swimsuit stunner was also open about the loss.

“We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we’ve been able to experience. But every day can’t be full of sunshine,” Teigen wrote in September. “On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.”

Teigen has not shied away from discussing her reproductive life, sharing her struggles to get pregnant and how her children were conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF).
