Dina Eastwood legally filed for separation from Clint Eastwood, her husband of 17 years, on Monday after months of speculation about their marriage. In August, Dina confirmed rumors to Us Weekly that she and Clint, who previously starred together on the E! reality show “Mrs. Eastwood & Company,” had not been living together for nearly a year.

But in recent weeks, reports about their marriage have taken a turn for the salacious. Last week Us Weekly broke the story that the 83-year-old “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” star and his estranged wife had engaged in mate-swapping with a pair of close friends. Their reality show reportedly put a strain on the relationship practically from its inception – “Clint was furious about the show. It went against everything he stands for,” a source told People – with the pair allegedly separating in June 2012.

According to reports, Dina, 48, made the first move when she allegedly began dating Scott Fisher, a former boyfriend of hers from high school who currently works at the University of Hawaii as an assistant basketball coach. The pair reportedly got closer after Clint began spending less and less time around Dina to avoid the reality show.

“Dina is in love with Scott. It's like high school all over again,” a source told the National Enquirer.

But in an even more surprising turn, shortly after those reports surfaced, Clint was photographed with a new woman: Fisher’s ex-wife Erica Tomlinson-Fisher. A source who spoke to Us Weekly said that Erica had called up Eastwood to share her concerns about her ex-husband and Dina, and the two unexpectedly began dating, a development which one family friend said caused Dina to go into “total shock.”

“After Scott and Erica divorced, Erica was sure Scott was romancing Dina,” a source told the publication. “Erica called Clint’s office last February to discuss her suspicions –then he fell for her!”

“She couldn’t put one foot in front of the other. Dina went into a tailspin,” the source said.

A photograph published in the Daily News even showed Eastwood dropping off a woman identified as Tomlinson-Fisher at LAX airport on Aug. 31. Dina responded with a statement saying, “I am saddened to see photos of Clint with Ms. Tomlinson-Fisher. I look forward to new beginnings.”

Despite the love quadrangle, Dina still defended her husband over Twitter last week, writing, "I don't like reading negative things about Clint. He is a wonderful, good-natured, brilliant person. No matter what, I attest to that."
