“Riverdale” stars and on-again, off-again couple Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart are ready for people to stop speculating about their relationship. In an unexpected statement, Sprouse explained that he and Reinhart’s last breakup is intended to be permanent.

“Lili and I initially separated in January of this year, deciding to more permanently split in March,” he wrote on Instagram Wednesday.

The actor, who plays Jughead Jones opposite Reinhart’s Betty Cooper on the CW’s Archie Comics adaptation, added some positive words about their relationship and his ex-girlfriend.

“What an incredible experience I had, I’ll always feel lucky and cherish that I had the chance to fall in love,” he added. “I wish her nothing but the utmost love and happiness moving forward. All I’ll say about it, anything else you hear doesn’t matter.”

Sprouse even took the chance to promote “Chemical Hearts,” Reinhart’s movie, due out Friday on Amazon Prime. “Also her movie comes out soon! I’m sure she’s just as incredible in it as everything else she does. Thanks guys,” the 28-year-old concluded.

The two kept the details of their relationship private, but they are believed to have started dating about four years ago.

The statement from Sprouse comes just a day after Reinhart, 23, said she had her words taken out of context. She claims she never addressed their breakup in a Refinery29 feature.

“The last couple of months have probably [been] the most emotional few months of my entire life and my therapist [told] me, ‘Your body's going through withdrawal from love. You're used to having this exchange of happy chemicals between you and the person that you're with,’” she explained.

She responded just hours after publication on Twitter, “I would never speak so candidly about something as personal as a breakup. That’s incredibly private. I was addressing my depression.”
