  • Chinese scientists have warned against a possible resurgence of COVID-19 next year
  • They also said that it could become a yearly thing, which Dr. Anthony Fauci seemed to confirm
  • For better or worse, Fauci said, 'normal' may take on a whole new meaning after the pandemic

Leading Chinese scientists claim that the coronavirus will not simply burn out for good. The virus, which had been responsible for 200,000 deaths worldwide and has forced the world to come to a standstill, may return each year.

According to Fox News, the scientists said that the virus may manifest in waves because of the number of asymptomatic carriers — those who might be positive of the virus but don’t show any signs of it. Other outbreaks of different diseases have easily tangible signs, but so far, COVID-19 has been a mixed bag; there are those who show signs of being sick and there are those who don’t.

Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said that the world might not be the same after the outbreak. He added that the world might not be able to go back to pre-coronavirus society. He also warned everyone to prepare for a possible resurgence of the virus next year.

The United States may be ahead of that curve than anybody else. Medical Xpress reported a study by epidemiologists at the University of Notre Dame, suggesting that the social distancing being done right now is nearly not enough. It must be done throughout the summer to prevent the resurgence of COVID-19.

The study highlighted the possible consequences of relaxing control measures as soon as May, where the nation stands to lose more than it can gain by giving ground to a potential resurgence. Alex Perkins, Eck Family Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the university, said that the measures in place right now should be at a “fairly high level” throughout the current season until summer to lower the chance of transmission.

It appears to be completely in line with what Fauci and the Chinese scientists said. Officials that are at the forefront of the fight against the pandemic are also pushing for faster clinical trials so that a vaccine can be found, which should deliver “intervention” that was not previously in place at the start of the COVID-19 outbreak.
