Cow Appreciation Day, as the name suggests, is celebrated in the United States every year on July 13 to raise awareness about the animal and its importance in our day-to-day lives.

American fast-food restaurant chain, Chick-Fil-A, started celebrating the day in 2004 in commemoration of Heff R. Jones and his humorous 1994 billboard campaign "EAT MOR CHIKIN," in which he encouraged people to prefer chicken over cow so that the cattle are consumed less.

Cows are raised as dairy animals for milk and other dairy products. In certain countries like India, cow dung is also used as fuel. They are also essential for farming activities and help in the transportation of goods in some countries.

On this day, several people in America dress up likes cows to get free food at Chick-Fil-A outlets. However, this year’s event has been postponed until further notice, owing to concerns of safety related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

That said, there are other ways people can still celebrate the day this year. One can spend some time at a cattle farm or with the local dairy farmers and learn more about cows.

On this occasion, here are a few quotes about cows. (Courtesy: Brainy Quotes and AZ Quotes)

  • "I absolutely adore cows. They're the most fascinating, gentle and beautiful animals. Their eyes are so amazing. I have ten that live on the land around my house. I love to talk to them. There are few things better than falling asleep in a field and being woken up by an inquisitive cow." – Mary Quant
  • "A cow out on grass is just an incredible thing to behold... Cows and other ruminants can do things we just can't do. They have the most highly evolved digestive organ on the planet, called the rumen. And the rumen can digest grass. It takes grass, cellulose in grass, and turns it into protein, very nutritious protein. We can't do that." – Michael Pollan
  • "To my mind, the only possible pet is a cow. Cows love you. They will listen to your problems and never ask a thing in return. They will be your friends forever. And when you get tired of them, you can kill and eat them. Perfect." – Bill Bryson
  • "The cow is an exceptionally loving and gentle creature. She cries for days when her calf is taken from her. It is a pitiful sound, a pitiful sound." – Helen Weston
