Abby Lee Miller took a break from her “Dance Moms” duties for a medical procedure this week. The ALDC coach revealed on Instagram that she went under the knife for her knee.

While Abby did not reveal why she needed knee surgery, she did tell her fans it’s been a long time coming. “I’ve needed surgery for quite some time now. I keep putting my students and the TV show #DanceMoms first, before my own health,” she wrote Wednesday. “The time has come… Keep your fingers crossed!” Her post was accompanied by a shot of her getting an injection in her knee.

On Thursday, Abby updated her fans on her condition, sharing a photo of her lying down and wearing a hospital gown. Abby also explained her first photo, saying getting a needle in her knee was “nothing” and that she has been getting the injection every few months. “This was the real deal!!!” Abby commented of the surgery. “Thank you for all the well wishes! I appreciate each and every one of you!”

Abby was said to have last gone under the knife in 2015 for a weight loss lap-band procedure, though she denied those rumors. After fans noticed she lost a considerable amount of weight, Abby said her body changed as a result of eating hospital food while her mother was in the hospital fighting colon cancer (Maryen Lorrain Miller died at the age of 86 in 2014) and a bad reaction to prescription medication.

“While you’re in and out of the hospital, that hospital food just makes you sick. I think it was a little bit mental with me,” she told People last year. Abby added that while visiting Australia for the Lifetime series in March 2015, she ran out of her onset diabetes medication and the refills she received Down Under made her ill. “I had to get a prescription refilled. Lo and behold, there’s something different about the prescription in Australia. I would take this medicine and within an hour, I was vomiting.” After hours of being sick, Abby said she couldn’t fathom eating food, causing her to lose weight.

Amid Abby’s procedure, “Dance Moms” has started filming new episodes for the back half of Season 6. While Abby was present for two competitions thus far, it’s unknown if she will attend the cast’s scheduled appearance at Sheer Talent in San Francisco on Saturday.

Lifetime announced it was ordering more episodes of the competition series in February. The first half of Season 6 is currently airing, with the finale scheduled to premiere on Tuesday. The episode, “One Last Dance,” will be original stars Maddie and Mackenzie Ziegler’s last, though they will appear on forthcoming reunion specials.

Catch “Dance Moms” on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on Lifetime.
