The end is near on Season 23 of “Dancing With the Stars” and it’s starting to take a toll on the bodies of some competitors. In Week 8, Sharna Burgess was benched from the competition due to a knee injury. The following week Gleb Savchenko was forced to power through a similar injury. Could their time in the competition be up?

Entertainment Tonight caught up with both injured pros after Week 9 to discuss their fates on the ABC series. Burgess, who did not dance with partner James Hinchcliffe Monday or the week prior, was optimistic about returning before Season 23 wraps. She told the publication that she is “incredibly proud” of the work James is doing with stand-in partner Jenna Johnson. Looking to get back to the ballroom, Sharna said her knee is healing fast but admitted the entire ordeal has been incredibly difficult for her.

“This is a different kind of injury...this is an injury with risk that really has a lot of consequences for my career,” she explained. “I had to consider and make that really hard decision that if I take this Monday off and give it a little bit more time, maybe I can be here for the next two weeks but I can also go on tour, I can go next season.”

As for Gleb, he was able to dance in Week 9 although partner Jana Kramer said he was struggling just to stand during rehearsals. While she has tried to urge him to sit out a few weeks of the “DWTS” competition, he is not at all keen on the idea of being sidelined. Savchenko told ET he has been taking care of his injury as best he can and plans to continue to do so.

“I just have to take care of it and do rehab every day and ice it and maybe drain it one more time,” he said.

News of Gleb’s injury became public on Nov. 4. Jana posted a photo of her pro partner sitting in a chair inside their rehearsal room with her and “DWTS” troupe member Alan Bersten standing on either side of him. She did not reveal the nature of his injury, though the soft cast wrapped around his leg suggests it is related to his knee. Gleb shared the same photo, apologizing to Jana for not being able to practice with her. He was hopeful at the time that he would be able to dance with her in Week 9, which he did. Despite his injury, they were awarded a perfect score.

Sharna revealed her injury during Week 8 of the competition through rehearsal footage. She shared with viewers that she had previously injured that knee and, as such, had to be extra vigilant in taking care of it. Jenna stepped in, practicing with James and taking to the ballroom during the Halloween episode to dance by his side. They were awarded a perfect score and immunity, which pleased Sharna.

“DWTS” returns for Week 10 of the competition on Monday, Nov. 14. Catch it on ABC at 8 p.m. EST.
