Following the attack on Dave Chappelle Tuesday, Netflix and a spokesperson for Chappelle have officially released statements.

The incident was described as “unfortunate and unsettling” by Chappelle’s spokesperson, Carla Sims, on Wednesday. But she explained that it is important to both the festival and Chappelle to highlight the achievements made at the event rather than focusing on the attack.

“Dave Chappelle celebrated four nights of comedy and music, setting record-breaking sales for a comedian at the Hollywood Bowl. This run ties Chappelle with Monty Python for the most headlined shows by any comedian at the Hollywood Bowl,” Sims added.

“Reaching 70k fans of diverse backgrounds during the first Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival, and he refuses to allow last night’s incident to overshadow the magic of this historic moment,’ Sims said.

Netflix also said in a brief statement that it wants to ensure that its creators are able to feel safe while performing and that the company will defend this.

"We care deeply about the safety of creators and we strongly defend the right of stand-up comedians to perform on stage without fear of violence," a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement.

Chappelle continued the show as normal after the attacker tackled him and as security arrested him.

Shortly after, Chappelle even joked about the incident and said, “I thought that was part of the show, I didn’t know what the [EXPLETIVE] was going on.”
