  • Bungie confirms that "Destiny 2" is coming to next-generation consoles
  • Microsoft's Xbox Series X and Sony's PlayStation 5 are set to be released this Holiday 2020
  • There is no release date yet for the next-gen versions of "Destiny 2"

“Destiny 2” is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Bungie confirmed the news right after the Xbox Series X gameplay reveal on Thursday, during which they were announced as a third-party partner of Microsoft. Replying to an Xbox tweet revealing all gaming partners, the Washington-based studio said that “Destiny 2 will be on next-gen platforms.”

While the tweet was made in response to Xbox, it is worth noting that Bungie wrote “platforms” instead of just Xbox Series X, suggesting that it will also be made for Sony’s next-gen console, the PlayStation 5.

As noted by GameRant, however, it remains to be seen how “Destiny 2” will be offered to both Xbox Series X and PS5.

For what it’s worth, the upcoming Microsoft next-gen console will have what they call “Smart Delivery.” The said feature will allow gamers to have an Xbox Series X version of the game if they already have it on Xbox One.

Sony, on the other hand, is yet to announce if they will have a similar feature or not. If they don’t, it might prove tricky for players to avail the game on the said console.

“Destiny 2” is one of the better multiplayer first-person shooters in the market. Released in 2017, the game continues to be popular in the community, thanks to its regular content updates and limited-time events.

However, while the confirmation of its development to next-gen consoles is definitely welcome news, there are a lot more changes coming to the game in the next few months.

Just recently, Bungie announced the major tweaks they will make in “Destiny 2,” one of which is how they roll out their season content. Normally, the game studio brings in a new “seasonal content” every three months and completely removes it at the end of each period.

However, starting in the fall of 2020, all seasonal content – specifically the core activities -- will be accessible to players for the whole year. This means gamers can still access previous content even if they join in the middle of the year.

“Destiny 2” is currently playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (Microsoft Windows). It is still unknown when its next-gen versions will arrive.
