Alex Garland, writer and director of smash sci-fi hits “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation,” has a new show coming out called “Devs.” We got our first look at this Hulu cyberpunk thriller when the trailer dropped on Thursday and it looks like a career-turning role for funnyman Nick Offerman.

Offerman, who is best known for having played Ron Swanson on NBC's comedy “Parks and Recreation,” plays a bit of a different character in “Devs.” From what is shown in the miniseries trailer, Offerman’s character Forest sports a hairstyle reminiscent of Javier Bardem’s Anton Chigurh from “No Country For Old Men” -- and he might just be equally sinister.

The trailer doesn’t give us much information other than revealing its near-future setting full of Garland’s signature hyper-stylized art direction, a few suspicious characters (including Sonoya Mizuno, who’s worked with Garland on both of his previously mentioned projects), and the term “Devs,” something that is played as a sort of mystery throughout the trailer.

As noted, Offerman’s character appears to be a villain. According to GQ, Forest might be the head of a quantum computing company known as Amaya. This computing company is suspected to be behind the disappearance of Mizuno’s character Lily’s boyfriend, who, at the start of the trailer, sits in front of a computer with Forest standing nearby, unsure of what to do. Forest tells he’ll learn in due time.

There are more questions than answers in this mysterious trailer, but what’s apparent is Lily is on her own investigation to find her boyfriend and ultimately uncover the mystery of what “Devs” is, all with Offerman’s ominous character in her path.

FX's "Devs" premieres on Hulu in March.
