Doctor Who Christmas 2015 Spoilers

There’s nothing better than spending the holidays with family. After the “Doctor Who” Season 9 finale, the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) will run into his wife, River Song (Alex Kingston). However, they won’t be spending Christmas by a tree exchanging presents. They’ll end up fighting aliens, as usual. The new poster, shown above, shows them facing off against a robot.

The robot belongs to King Hydroflax (Greg Davies). Somehow, River and the Doctor manage to anger him, and the robot is sent after them. “King Hydroflax is furious,” the synopsis reveals. “And his giant Robot bodyguard is out-of-control and coming for them all!”

River seems to be holding some sort of weapon, and looks much braver than she did in a photo released last month (below). The Doctor also seems to be holding a small flashlight … or is it a new sonic screwdriver? Plenty of fans are hoping he’ll ditch those sonic sunglasses eventually.

It also isn’t clear if River knows who the Doctor is in either of these photos. This will be the first time she meets Twelve. “When will River Song work out who the Doctor is?” the synopsis asks. It seems she won’t realize that he’s the Time Lord she married quite as quickly as she did in Season 4 when she met the Tenth incarnation of the Doctor (David Tennant).

The 2015 “Doctor Who” Christmas special is titled “The Husbands of River Song.” Though Peter Jackson has sparked rumors that he’ll direct the British hit soon, he won’t direct this episode. Douglas Mackinnon directed and showrunner Steven Moffat wrote the episode.

If you missed the synopsis that was released last week, read it in its entirety below:

It’s Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas Carols and Comedy Antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song’s squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy. King Hydroflax is furious, and his giant Robot bodyguard is out-of-control and coming for them all! Will Nardole [Matt Lucas] survive? And when will River Song work out who the Doctor is? All will be revealed on a starliner full of galactic super-villains and a destination the Doctor has been avoiding for a very long time.

The “Doctor Who” Christmas special airs Friday, Dec. 25, on BBC America.
