It seems that J’onn (David Harewood) and M’gann (Sharon Leal) will become closer to one another when “Supergirl” Season 2 returns from its midseason hiatus later this month.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said that the relationship between the two Martians will play a significant part in the installment’s second half. “[J’onn’s] relationship with M’gann is an important one over this next batch of episodes,” Kreisberg teased. “There is some really great stuff for David and Sharon that we are really excited about. We love Sharon’s performance and we love seeing David and Sharon together, it’s some of our favorite stuff this season.”

Kreisberg then confirmed that the relationship between the Green Martian and the White Martian will turn romantic at some point, saying: “We’ve been really lucky with our romantic pairings this season, and we really think that J’onn and M’gann have a great storyline coming up.”

While it appears that things between J’onn and M’gann are bound to get better in the upcoming episodes, fans can expect quite the opposite for Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima). “There’s definitely some bumps,” Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly of Alex and Maggie’s relationship. “Just because they are together now doesn’t mean it’s going to go smoothly.”

Kreisberg pointed out that being in a romantic relationship is new to Alex, so it won’t be surprising if she encounters some problems along the way. And while Alex currently has high regards for Maggie, the DEO agent will later discover that the NCPD police detective is also flawed just like everyone else.

“Alex has never been in this kind of relationship before and she’s going to make some rookie mistakes that they’ll have to get past,” Kreisberg said. “[Meanwhile,] Maggie has been presented as being the perfect guide for Alex’s journey this season, but Alex is going to learn that Maggie isn’t perfect, which is going to lead to some difficult situations coming down the road.”

“Supergirl” winter premiere (Season 2, episode 9), titled “Supergirl Lives,” airs on Monday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m. EST. on The CW.
