While most Americans aren't happy with Donald Trump, Gallup's latest tracking figure shows a majority of the citizens are optimistic the president could do a good job in making the U.S. prosper. According to the poll, 54 percent Americans believe Trump will make the country prosperous, but they are less optimistic about the current president than they were about Barack Obama or George W. Bush.

"Trump has consistently found his strongest public support on economic issues," the survey stated Friday. "Gallup polling the week after he won the election in November found Americans most optimistic that Trump would be able to ‘reduce unemployment and create new jobs’ (62 percent) and ‘improve the economy’ (60 percent)."

In the same poll, only 36 percent said Trump would be able to "improve the quality of the environment," while 46 percent were optimistic over the president’s plans for U.S. energy producers.

Trump, who has called for major shifts in environmental, energy and economic policies acquired by the Obama administration, received his strongest public support on economic issues in polls just a week after he won the election in November.

At the time, 62 percent Americans expressed optimism that Trump would be able to "reduce unemployment and create new jobs" and 60 percent believed he could "improve the economy."

However, Trump's approval ratings remained low Friday amid his ongoing healthcare bill, aimed at replacing the Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare. Gallup's tracking this week showed just 41 percent approval, which was 3 percent less than earlier in the week. Trump's disapproval hit 53 percent, which grew by 3 percent last Sunday.

Trump's presidency has been plagued by scandal and controversy, including the "Golden Shower" incident and the ongoing controversy of its purported connections to Russia.

Most recently, Trump accused Obama of wiretapping the Trump Tower during the presidential elections. However, the accusations came without any evidence presented by Trump, who also launched an investigation into the incident.
