The highly anticipated season 4 promo video for “Downton Abbey” is finally here. With the U.K. premiere date quickly approaching, U.S. fans can ease the pain of waiting until Jan. 5 by feasting on the one-minute trailer.

The promo for the ITV drama kicks off with the Dowager Countess telling a black-clad Lady Mary that she has a “straightforward choice.”

“You must choose either death or life,” the Dowager Countess tells Mary, who is still mourning the death of her husband, cousin Matthew. “And you think I should choose life,” Mary counters.

Mary’s grieving process won’t be an easy one, and while the new suitors featured in the video are bound to take her mind off of Matthew, Lady Mary can still be seen crying in Mr. Carson’s arms.

But Mary won’t be the only one struggling this season. In the video Branson can be seen comforting Matthew’s mother, Isobel, while Daisy and Branson can be seen crying.

Other than tears, fans of “Downton Abbey” can look forward to lots of romance … more specifically kissing.

The latest “Downton Abbey” promo video was teased by ITV last week with a 10-second teaser trailer. The video featured the voice of Maggie Smith’s Dowager Countess as she told a then-unknown individual that they must “choose either death or life.”

As we previously reported, “Downton Abbey” will pick up six months after Matthew’s fatal car accident. The new season will follow Mary as she struggles to bond with the baby and move on from Matthew.
