KEY POINTS

  • Fan displeasure over how Frieza and Vegeta interacted in "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F" left some feeling that the story was a copout
  • The next DLC for "Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot" though could implement changes that will affect the overall story for the better
  • Will Bandai Namco be willing to add to the game for the sake of the whole series?

Fans of “Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot” are hoping that a future DLC allows some changes to be made in the overall story of the series.

Released on Xbox, PlayStation 4, and PC in January, the game previously accurately portrayed events from the saga, except regarding events from the 2013 film “Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.”

The introductions of Beerus and Whis were whittled down to boss battles and a few training scenes in “Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.” One big event, however, left many fuming regarding a major moment stolen from Vegeta.

In 2015’s “Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F,” Frieza destroys Earth before Vegeta kills him. This forces Whis to reverse time to give Goku the opportunity to end the tyrant before the heinous act is committed. That outcome left fans angry and left some feeling that it was a copout. With a DLC like “Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot” and future DLCs, the story has a chance for a redo to give Vegeta what he deserves.

Speculation on Gamerant has Golden Frieza emerging in the next DLC although Bandai Namco will have different options on where the story can go. Vegeta or Goku will likely be able to engage the Ultimate Evolution of Frieza, resulting in different outcomes depending on that choice.

Possible changes that could be implemented include eliminating Whis’ role completely, allowing whichever character the player chose to deal with the concluding hit, or maybe even switching roles. If the player beats Golden Frieza as Goku rather than Vegeta, Goku's leniency and willingness to forgive may allow Frieza the time to destroy the world forcing Whis to send Vegeta instead to finish the job. This would be more in line with their character traits.

According to Gamerant though, more likely than any of these scenarios is that the entire scene will just be cut. The first DLC cut out nearly every story element from the plot of Battle of Gods,” as Goku and Vegeta are instead teleported to what seems to be a different timeline altogether and train with them. Golden Frieza's arrival will likely not have the same stakes as it did in the show, as the fight will be replayable in the same way that Beerus is.

Yet another possibility is that “Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot” will just opt to skip Golden Frieza entirely, bringing the second DLC spot to Hit instead. At present though, no official word has been released.
