  • EA launched the "Star Wars: Squadrons" on Oct. 2
  • Recently, several sites speculated  EA Motive could be working on a new "Star Wars"
  • The developer said it was "working on something pretty special"

EA Motive finally broke its silence after several reports that surfaced online speculated the branch developer would be working on a couple of new projects, one of them being a new "Star Wars" game.

EA Motive posted on its official Twitter account that no new “Star Wars” game is being planned at the studio. It also clarified the mention of Disney’s franchise in the listing is a human error. Interestingly, the developer said although it is not working on a new game, it is “working on something pretty special.”

After several sites also reported about a job listing, the wording has been changed and the role is no longer open. Several industry watchers and fans thought the rumored job listing aligns with what General Manager Patrick Klaus said in August. He mentioned the studio was also working on several unannounced projects aside from the “Star Wars: Squadrons.”

Unfortunately, while many fans hoped the speculations were accurate, sadly, a new “Star Wars” game is not among those unannounced projects the executive earlier mentioned. The job listing in question is for the Canadian EA Motive, which stated it is looking for a programmer to work on two forthcoming projects.

The projects were described as a new “Star Wars” video game and a new original IP. While there are not many details provided in the listing, it mentions the upcoming title is an action game. The job post does not also say about release windows or launch platforms.

EA was behind popular games like “Star Wars: Battlefront II” and the fan-favorite title “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.” The latter follows the story of Cal Kestis in the events that occurred between "A New Hope" and "Revenge of the Sith". The game was developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts.

Meanwhile, the EA launched the “Star Wars: Squadrons” on Oct. 2. The game was released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It introduced high-flying dogfights to various platforms including VR support to PC and PSVR users.
