Lucas Bravo addressed the French critics' concerns about "Emily in Paris" after the intense backlash the show received for allegedly portraying the cliches about the people in Paris.

Lucas sat with Cosmopolitan after the success of Netflix's "Emily in Paris." During the interview, he was asked about the backlash from the French critics. Bravo said he understood their concerns and even agreed with them but also defended the show.

"I think they're right, in a way. We're portraying cliches and we're portraying one single vision of Paris," he said.

"Paris is one of the most diverse cities in the world. We have so many ways of thinking, so many different nationalities, so many different neighborhoods. A lifetime wouldn't be enough to know everything that's going on in Paris. It's an entire world in a city," he added.

Lucas sided with the show by saying that it’s impossible to feature everything in a series with only 10 episodes. He said that one has to choose a single angle and that’s what “Emily in Paris” did.

"At some point, if you want to tell a story about Paris, you have to choose an angle. You have to choose a vision. French critics, they didn't understand the fact that it's just one vision. They're like, ‘Oh, this is not what Paris is.’ Of course. Paris is many things,” he said.

When asked about the love triangle among Emily (Lily Collins), Gabriel (Bravo), and Camille (Camille Razat), Lucas said that there are a lot of possibilities when it comes to the three characters. He pointed out how Camille kissed Emily on the lips and said, "I'm not sorry." He also singled out the scene when Emily and Camille were on a bed and he liked their picture on Instagram.

When asked to choose between Emily or Camille, Lucas didn't answer and only said it was a tough question. But when probed further into Gabriel's feelings for the two characters, Lucas said it's more of Emily. However, it won’t be easy for his character because Camille is strong-willed and he is sure she will definitely return.

"Emily in Paris" has not been renewed for a second season yet, but many are hoping that it will return for a sophomore run. The series is not a Netflix original. It was produced by ViacomCBS's MTV and was originally meant to air on the Paramount Network but was moved to Netflix in July 2020.
