  • Several PlayStation Twitter accounts have announced that "Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout" has just become the most downloaded PlayStation Plus game of all time
  • After launching just this past Aug. 4, the title followed the same strategy that made "Rocket League" an e-sports phenomenon
  • With heavy-hitters like “Destiny 2” and “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered” among the best-selling PS Plus games, this is quite the accomplishment by "Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout"

Add another record to the ones “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” has broken. Sony announced that the indie battle royale title from Mediatonic is now the most downloaded PlayStation Plus game ever.

Digital Trends reports that several PlayStation Twitter accounts such as PlayStation UK announced the accomplishment on Wednesday, stating, “As of today, Fall Guys is the most downloaded PS Plus game of all time on a global basis.”

Launched just this past Aug. 4 as a free download for PlayStation Plus subscribers, “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” followed the same strategy that made “Rock League” an e-sports phenomenon. “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” continues to dominate on streaming services like Twitch by following a similar trajectory as “Rocket League” did.

Earlier this summer, Sony released an infographic that showed the top downloaded games over the first decade of PlayStation Plus’ existence. With heavy-hitters like “Destiny 2” and “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered” among the titles, this latest achievement by “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” was no walk in the park.

After attracting 1.5 million players on its first day, the game recently cracked two million players on Steam. The “Fall Guys” Twitter account is currently running a bidding war for charity as brands and streamers are pledging huge donations to get a costume or logo of a brand onto the game. Next Monday will be the last day of the auction.

At present, YouTube gaming channel @FGTeev has the highest bid at $422,222.22. The proceeds from the auction will go to Special Effect, a U.K.-based charity that is leveling the playing field for gamers with physical disabilities around the world.

Viral stunts like these have helped keep the “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” momentum going even as Mediatonic continues to tweak the game. The most recent patch brought new features such as removing team games from the minigame rotation when players can’t be placed on even teams.

Currently available only on PlayStation 4 and PC, news recently broke that the game is headed for mobile but only in China. Users of other consoles like the Nintendo Switch remain hopeful that “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” eventually finds its way onto their systems as well.
