In a shocking incident, a man in Nigeria murdered his 2-month-old baby girl because the infant would not stop crying. He, along with his wife, allegedly also murdered their two other children due to poverty and abandoned a third one.

The suspect, identified only by his first name Sanjo, from the city of Osogbo, was arrested Sunday on charges of murdering his infant daughter. The arrest was made based on a tip-off from a neighbor in the community, said Olubukola Olaboopo, the state commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs, Punch reported.

Sanjo admitted to the crime during police interrogation. However, he maintained that it was "unintentional."

"My wife left the child with me and she started crying. I did all I could to placate her, but she kept crying. Something just came upon me and I beat the two-month-old baby to death. My wife and I buried the child on our farmland," Sanjo said.

Police made another shocking discovery when they interrogated the infant's mother. Sanjo's wife told them that she had earlier conspired with her husband and murdered their two children as they did not have the money to take care of the kids. She also admitted to abandoning another child in a busy locality in Osogbo.

Olaboopo said the local government would not condone any acts of violence against women and abuse against children. She also assured that the government will take strict actions against the perpetrators, Vanguard reported.

Last month, a man in India allegedly murdered his toddler son by replacing his milk with poison as the child was crying continuously. Police registered a case against the suspect, identified as Munna Mandal, from the Indian state of Bihar. The child's mother was away during the incident. When she returned home, she saw the child lying unresponsive on her husband's lap. The man then told his wife that he fed the child poison from a small pesticide bottle instead of milk to make him fall silent. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.
