A man in India killed his toddler son by replacing his milk with poison as he was crying continuously.

The incident took place in the northern state of Bihar. Police said the one-and-a-half-year-old boy’s mother had gone out of the house for some work when the incident happened. When the woman returned home, she found her son lying in her husband’s lap. Soon, she realized that the boy was not moving, Times Now reported.

"He was in her husband’s lap. After some time, she observed that her child had fallen silent," a police officer told local daily the Times of India.

When asked, the man, identified as Munna Mandal, said that he had poisoned the child.

"She asked why he was not moving to which Munna angrily replied that he had fed him poison from a small 100ml pesticide bottle kept nearby instead of giving him milk bottle to make him fall silent," the officer said.

The woman and her mother, who was at home at the time of the incident, thrashed the man before rushing the toddler to a local hospital. The child was declared dead on arrival.

The child’s mother then filed a police complaint. However, by the time the cops could catch him, the accused had fled.

"He soon fled from the spot and is evading arrest. Police have come to know that the couple did not have a good relationship. It has also surfaced that Munna was a drug addict," the officer told the outlet.

Police said a search was on for the accused and the body of the toddler has been handed over to the family.

Last month, a 1-year-old boy in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu died after his grandmother stuffed a wrapper into his mouth for crying. The infant’s mother returned home from work and found her son lying motionless in his room. She rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. An autopsy revealed he had a crack on his skull and minor injuries on his body. A wrapper was also found stuffed in the boy's throat.
